2018-19 GAEL Aspiring Principals' Program

The Georgia Association of Educational Leaders (GAEL) has developed a program for assistant principals to help them address the multitude of roles and responsibilities expected of building-level leaders today. The GAEL Aspiring Principals Program is designed for individuals who a) desire to become a building level principal or b) are moving from one school level to another (middle school to high school, etc.) and have no experience as an assistant principal at the new school level.

Spanning a school year, program content focuses on the development of the knowledge and skills necessary for success as an assistant principal. Particular emphasis is placed the following areas: utilization of available physical and fiscal resources; use of personal time and effort; school operation using established legal and ethical principles; internal and external communications strategies and practices; financial procedures and controls; instructional supervision; student discipline; special education; and personnel practices.

Program presenters include school leaders in Georgia public schools and individuals with demonstrated knowledge and experience in their content area. All presentations and activities focus on practical applications of the content at the building level.

Participants are expected to attend five meetings. Three are associated with regularly scheduled conferences: a) principals' organization Fall Conferences scheduled in November, b) Winter GAEL in January and c) Summer GAEL in July. The first program meeting will be on September 25 at the Regan Center in Houston County.

The cost for participants who are current GAEL and affiliate (GAESP, GAMSP or GASSP) members is $600. Participants who are not current members will be charged $800 which includes GAEL and one affiliate membership. Participants are responsible for travel costs associated with attending program meetings.

Additional program information and on-line registration.

Please send questions to Hal Beaver, Executive Director of GAESP at 706-250-4805 or via email at hbeaver@gael.org or Don Splinter at 404-307-9704 or via email at dsplinter@gael.org.
